Fircroft College of Adult Education is a residential college situated in Selly Oak, Birmingham, designed to help adults learn new skills, achieve goals and transform their lives.
With over 200 short courses on offer, Fircroft College helps adults gain the qualifications they need to boost their careers. Unlike other local colleges, Fircroft is situated in a former Cadbury family home within six acres of beautiful grounds and allows students to ‘get away from it all’ by living and learning onsite.
Fircroft is also renowned for its ability to build excellent bespoke training packages to meet the needs of employers and other local partners.
However, having been founded in 1909 by George Cadbury Jr, grandson of Cadbury’s co-founder John, Fircroft College needed some fresh design for print to appeal to modern-day professionals at events. This included working on their brochures, prospectuses and pop-up banners.

Fircroft College required a print design agency who could elevate their event marketing collateral and continually meet tight deadlines.
One of the most effective sources of enrolling mature students for Fircroft College is through attending events.
With such a hectic schedule, they no longer had the time to make any fine tweaks or improve their marketing collateral for the events.
Not only did Fircroft College require a creative eye for detail, but they needed a design agency who could be highly responsive to meet tight deadlines.
During peak event season, we were tasked with the job of amending and elevating a number of brochures, prospectuses and pop-up banners. All of which, play an integral role in boosting brand awareness, making a lasting impression and generating interest.
The clean, professional design for print met tight turnaround times and helped Fircroft College make a positive impression at multiple events.
Despite the challenging deadlines, we worked tirelessly on various pieces of printed marketing collateral and pop-up banners to ensure they showcased Fircroft’s values and vision for the future.
While the residential college is steeped in history, it was our job to capture this rich history, but bring it into the 21st century with a modern design for print. With the prospectuses and brochures, we avoided big imagery and incorporated smaller ones within some clean and colourful shapes. From a design point of view, this looked cleaner and guaranteed that the image quality was maintained when printed.
Using a white background alongside the brand colours of navy blue and green gave all of the printed collateral a polished finish. It also pays homage to Fircroft College’s rural location, with the dash of orange adding a bit of contrast into the mix.
On the whole, the idea was to keep the messaging and design simple so adults wouldn’t feel intimidated by the concept of going back into education.
We applied the same principle to the pop-up banners too. However, we placed a greater emphasis on the size of the text to make sure that it told exhibitors exactly who they were and enticed them in to have a chat to find out more. Fircroft College was absolutely thrilled with the quality of work we delivered time and time again, despite tight deadlines.
